Luxicraft
The problem
LED-volume virtual production needs backplates with enough resolution and latitude to survive being projected as an environment.
The approach
Shoot 360 at spec for the volume, not for the web — stabilised, high dynamic range, integrated into the XR workflow.
What was built
12.5K 360° ProRes backplate library at 14 stops of dynamic range, shot on META 3 Immersive cameras.
The outcome
Library launched for LED-stage virtual production. Gavin served as Director of Immersive Videography.
As Director of Immersive Videography at Luxicraft (2022–2023), Gavin launched a library of stabilized 12.5K 360° ProRes backplates — 14 stops of dynamic range — for LED-stage virtual production volumes, shot on META 3 Immersive cameras with full XR workflow integration.
This sits right at the intersection of two skill sets that recruiters look for together: capture engineering (building the rig, hitting the technical spec) and virtual-production pipeline literacy — the same instinct that runs through the gigapixel and VR work, applied to the newest form of in-camera production.
Named productions using this class of work (per Gavin’s own portfolio reference): high- resolution 360° stitching for driving plates projected on spherical LED volume stages, including the 2022 Infiniti QX60 global reveal (director Zack Snyder, featuring Kate Hudson) and the 2023 Cadillac LYRIQ “Boldly Defy Expectation” TV commercial. Both are exactly the kind of work Luxicraft’s backplate library exists to serve.
⚠️ Needs confirmation: the source document lists these under Gavin’s personal stitching credits, not explicitly “via Luxicraft” — worth confirming with Gavin whether these were delivered through Luxicraft specifically or as a separate, parallel stitching credit, before stating the connection as fact rather than a strong likely link.
Built a 12.5K 360° ProRes virtual-production backplate library for LED-volume stages.
